FIRST MISSISSIPPI COMPANY SCHOLARSHIP

SCHOLARSHIP

  • Each year the FMC will offer a Scholarship of $500 to descendants of members of the FMC.  Only one scholarship will be awarded annually.  If a descendant is not nominated by a member, candidates seeking degrees in American History may be considered.  Applicants may be high school seniors, undergraduates, or graduate students in college.  The FMC requires that the scholarship recipient apply the monetary award to his educational expenditures only.

  • Nominations for the FMC Scholarship will be accepted December 1 through March 1 each year.  Information and/or materials received before December 1 or after March 1 will not be considered.  Nominations may be made electronically, by US Mail, or other mail service.

  • Members will make their nominations by submitting the following information to the FMC Governor:  Applicant’s name, postal address, electronic (email) address, phone number, GPA, and a summary of the applicant’s educational achievements and goals, career plans, hobbies, and any additional information that the member making the nomination or the applicant believes will help the Council in choosing a recipient. A GPA of B or higher is required for consideration.  A formal resume or curriculum vitae is not required.

  • The FMC Council will select the recipient and the Governor will mail the winner a congratulatory letter.  The Treasurer will write the check made payable to the winner and give it to the Governor who will present the check to the recipient or his representative at the Spring meeting.  The winner of the FMC Scholarship is encouraged to attend the Spring meeting to accept the check in person and is requested to provide a photograph of himself suitable for use on the Company website.

  • An applicant who does not win the scholarship may apply again if enrolled as a student when the application is submitted and the award is made.  No person may win the scholarship more than once.
